International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3rd December) celebrates almost 30 years of driving meaningful change; raising awareness, promoting rights, more inclusivity, equality and well-being of, and for, those with disabilities. This year’s theme is ‘Not All Disabilities are Visible’. Many, like mental health disorders, chronic pain, fatigue, heart conditions are invisible – but that does not make them any less devastating to someone’s quality of life. Indeed, few disabilities, learning difficulties, and/or ongoing, or long term, physical or mental health conditions, are visible. So, let’s remember that many people, including other students and tutors, may be managing conditions, or supporting someone else who has, on a daily basis, and we’ll have no idea.
It was fabulous to greet our new learners in September and they are all doing really well. It has been an exceptional start to this term with the learners settling into their new groups. Assessments have begun and the students are doing amazingly.
I am sure you will join me in thanking all of the staff for the hard work they put in to make sure our learners are well supported in their learning.
We hope you all enjoy your Christmas break and wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
