Following our recent story on Charlotte Haskell’s marathon achievements, we are featuring another member this week, Jim Travis.
This was Jim’s first marathon. After experiencing the atmosphere second hand whilst supporting a friend the previous year, the opportunity arose to become a member of the Pink Lady Apples team. Sponsors of the Virgin London Marathon and their chosen charity, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Jim jumped at the chance to fulfill a personal goal as well as raise much needed funds for this worthwhile charity.
Training hard for five days a week – with the help and support from his wife Clare, also a member at Reynolds – Jim trained for 16 weeks. Sticking to a strict workout regime and diet (supplied by Clare). They both took various fitness classes at Reynolds, such as Spin and Pilates with Trina. As well as training on the treadmill, weights and off-site road training.
Joining Reynolds on a Flexi 3 membership, they enjoyed the atmosphere and support of the people and trainers at Reynolds so much, that they signed up for a year. 18 months later and they are happier than ever with the support and home-from-home atmosphere that Reynolds (and its other members) provides.
When asked how Reynolds had helped him with the training, Jim replied,
“It’s the people. Martyn and Jake were always asking how things were going and constantly there with support and advice all through the training period and afterwards.”
If running 26 miles wasn’t hard enough, Jim agreed to run for Pink Lady Apples, which meant running dressed as an apple! This didn’t seem to affect Jim’s performance, as he still managed to complete the course in an amazing 5 Hours and 37 minutes.
Jim has so far raised over £800 for Great Ormond Street, if you would like to donate to his cause please visit his Just Giving page here.

May we again take this opportunity to congratulate Jim and all our members who took part in the Marathon, such a great achievement – keep up the good work!
